Abby's House

In October 2005 while serving a rotation in tropical medicine at the Hillside Clinic in Belize, Central America, Abigail Drake Brinkman, M.D., a fourth-year medical student from Indiana University School of Medicine, died in a tragic diving accident.  The Columbus, Indiana, Rotary Club, of which Peter Campbell King is a member, has worked with the Punta Gorda, Belize, Rotary Club on a campaign to build Abby’s House, a new dormitory at Hillside Clinic to provide improved living conditions for volunteers like Abby, a native of Columbus, Indiana.  The fund raising efforts have resulted in securing approximately One Hundred Fifty Thousand Dollars ($150,000.00 U.S.) for the construction project.

The dedication of Abby’s House is set for November 16, 2008 at the clinic.  This will be a time to not only honor the memory of Abby Brinkman but also to  support and encourage the efforts of Hillside Health Care International, a faith based, non-profit organization dedicated to serving God by providing health care and disease prevention to the poorest people of southern Belize.
